Description

Enjoy a classic Southern comfort food mashup with this recipe for crispy fried chicken and fluffy waffles. It’s a delightful combination that brings joy to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 4 pieces each
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¼ cups milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, whisk together 2 cups flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, and salt.
  2. In another shallow dish, whisk together eggs and 1 cup milk.
  3. Dip each chicken piece into the egg mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Carefully place chicken pieces in the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 6-8 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
  6. While the chicken is frying, prepare the waffles. In a large bowl, whisk together 1 ½ cups flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  7. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 ¼ cups milk, 2 eggs, and melted butter.
  8. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk until just combined. Do not overmix.
  9. Preheat your waffle iron according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  10. Pour about ½ cup of batter onto the hot waffle iron and cook until golden brown and crisp. Repeat with the remaining batter.
  11. Serve the fried chicken immediately with the freshly made waffles.

Notes

  • For extra crispy chicken, you can double-dip the chicken in the egg and flour mixture.
  • Adjust frying time based on the thickness of your chicken pieces.
  • Ensure your waffle iron is hot before adding the batter for the best results.
