- 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro, for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, garam masala, cumin, turmeric, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Add chicken pieces and toss to coat. Marinate for at least 30 minutes, or refrigerate for up to 4 hours.
- Add the marinated chicken, chopped onion, minced garlic, and grated ginger to your slow cooker.
- Pour the crushed tomatoes over the chicken mixture. Stir gently to combine.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours, until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
- Stir in the heavy cream during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.
Notes
- For a spicier dish, add more cayenne pepper.
- If you don’t have chicken thighs, chicken breast can be used, but reduce cooking time to prevent drying out.
- Serve with basmati rice or naan bread.
