Description
Make crispy hash browns easily in your waffle iron. Perfect for a quick and fun breakfast or snack for kids.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups shredded potatoes (about 2 large potatoes)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Pinch of black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your waffle iron to medium-high heat. Lightly grease the plates if they are not non-stick.
- Place the shredded potatoes in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out as much excess moisture as possible. This step is key for crispy hash browns!
- In a medium bowl, toss the dried shredded potatoes with the vegetable oil, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
- Spread about 1/2 cup of the potato mixture onto the preheated waffle iron, spreading it out to cover most of the surface.
- Close the lid and cook for 5-8 minutes, or until the hash browns are golden brown and crispy. Cooking time will vary depending on your waffle iron.
- Carefully remove the cooked hash browns with a spatula.
- Repeat with the remaining potato mixture.
- Serve hot with your kids’ favorite toppings like ketchup or a dollop of sour cream.
Notes
- Russet potatoes work best for shredding.
- Make sure to squeeze out as much water as possible for the crispiest results.
- You can add a pinch of garlic powder or onion powder to the potatoes for extra flavor.
