Description

Crispy and easy hash browns made in a waffle iron, perfect for kids.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large russet potatoes, peeled and shredded
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or melted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Finely grated onion, garlic powder, or other seasonings

Instructions

  1. Preheat your waffle iron.
  2. Squeeze out as much moisture as possible from the shredded potatoes using a clean towel or cheesecloth.
  3. In a bowl, toss the shredded potatoes with olive oil or melted butter, salt, and pepper. Add any optional seasonings if using.
  4. Lightly grease the waffle iron plates if needed.
  5. Place a handful of the potato mixture onto the hot waffle iron, spreading it slightly. Do not overfill.
  6. Close the lid and cook for 5-10 minutes, or until the hash browns are golden brown and crispy. Cooking time will vary depending on your waffle iron.
  7. Carefully remove the hash browns with a spatula.
  8. Repeat with the remaining potato mixture.
  9. Serve immediately with your kids’ favorite toppings like ketchup or a sprinkle of cheese.

Notes

  • Make sure to really squeeze out the moisture from the potatoes for the crispiest results.
  • Adjust cooking time based on how crispy your kids like their hash browns.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in a toaster oven or air fryer to maintain crispiness.
