Description

Make budget-friendly pork shoulder steaks incredibly juicy with this simple sweet soy and garlic marinade. Perfect for easy summer grilling or oven baking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pork shoulder steaks (about 1 inch thick)
  • 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, vegetable oil, minced garlic, ground ginger, and black pepper to create the pork steak marinade.
  2. Place the pork steaks in a large zip-top bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the steaks, making sure they are fully coated.
  3. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or up to 12 hours for the best flavor. This step is key for juicy grilled pork steaks.
  4. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 400 degrees F) or preheat your oven to 400 degrees F for baked pork shoulder steaks.
  5. Remove the steaks from the marinade, letting excess drip off. Discard the remaining marinade.
  6. For Grilling: Place the steaks on the hot grill grates. Grill for 5 to 7 minutes per side, turning once, until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees F.
  7. For Baking: Place the steaks on a foil-lined baking sheet. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees F.
  8. Remove the steaks from the heat and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving. This helps keep the meat tender.

Notes

  • For an extra layer of flavor, brush the steaks with a little extra soy sauce mixture during the last two minutes of cooking.
  • If you are baking, line your pan with parchment paper for easier cleanup after your easy pork dinner.
  • The target internal temperature for safe and juicy pork is 145 degrees F. Use a meat thermometer.
  • This sweet soy pork steak works well with simple sides like coleslaw or corn on the cob.
