Description

Make this easy dirt cake recipe, a no-bake layered dessert featuring crushed Oreos, rich chocolate pudding, and a creamy filling. It is a quick, crowd-pleasing treat perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (14.3 ounces) Oreo cookies
  • 1 package (3.9 ounces) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 container (8 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Crush all the Oreo cookies until they resemble fine crumbs. Set aside about 1 cup of the crumbs for topping.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and cold milk for about two minutes until the mixture thickens. Let it stand for five minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Gradually beat in the powdered sugar until fully combined.
  4. Gently fold the thawed whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture until smooth.
  5. Fold the majority of the crushed Oreos (reserving the topping amount) into the pudding mixture.
  6. In a large trifle dish or 9×13 inch pan, begin layering the dessert. Spread half of the Oreo-pudding mixture on the bottom.
  7. Spread the entire cream cheese mixture evenly over the first layer.
  8. Top the cream cheese layer with the remaining Oreo-pudding mixture.
  9. Sprinkle the reserved 1 cup of crushed Oreo crumbs evenly over the top layer to resemble dirt.
  10. Chill the dirt cake in the refrigerator for at least four hours, or preferably overnight, before serving.

Notes

  • For a fun presentation, you can layer this in individual clear cups or even clean, small flower pots for a whimsical look.
  • If you want a richer texture, substitute half of the milk with heavy cream when making the pudding.
  • You can use cookies and cream pudding instead of chocolate pudding for a different flavor profile.
