Description

You will bake the Ultimate Moist Amish Apple Fritter Bread featuring fresh apples and a sweet cinnamon swirl, topped with a simple glaze. This quick bread brings comfort and joy to your kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for batter)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups peeled, cored, and diced apples (about 2 medium apples)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for swirl)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for swirl)
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • For the Glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and salt. Set this dry mix aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. You want this well combined.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined; do not overmix the batter.
  6. Gently fold in the diced apples and nuts, if using.
  7. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon for the swirl until crumbly.
  8. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the batter. Pour the remaining batter on top, then sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the top layer.
  9. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before carefully turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. While cooling, whisk together the powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract for the glaze until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread.

Notes

  • Use crisp apples like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith for the best texture.
  • For extra moisture, briefly toss the diced apples in a tablespoon of flour before folding them into the batter.
  • If you want a more intense swirl, you can gently swirl the top layer with a butter knife once or twice before baking.
  • This bread is best enjoyed within three days.
