Description

Create festive Maple Pecan French Toast Roll-Ups, a sweet and satisfying treat perfect for a special Christmas breakfast. These rolled delights bring joy and flavor to your holiday morning.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices day-old brioche or challah bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk (whole or preferred type)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped pecans
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup (for batter)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for cooking)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • Extra maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

  1. Lightly flatten each bread slice using a rolling pin. Remove the crusts if you prefer a cleaner roll.
  2. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and 2 tablespoons of maple syrup until well combined.
  3. Dip one flattened bread slice into the egg mixture, coating both sides briefly. Do not soak the bread.
  4. Sprinkle a small amount of chopped pecans onto the coated bread slice.
  5. Tightly roll the bread slice up. Place seam-side down on a plate. Repeat with remaining slices.
  6. Melt butter in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  7. Place the roll-ups seam-side down in the hot skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, turning gently until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Remove the roll-ups from the skillet and place them on a serving platter.
  9. Dust generously with powdered sugar and serve immediately with extra warm maple syrup for dipping.

Notes

  • Using day-old bread helps the slices hold their shape better when rolled.
  • You can prepare the roll-ups ahead of time and store them covered in the refrigerator until ready to cook.
  • Adjust the amount of cinnamon and nutmeg to what tastes best to you.
  • For an extra festive touch, you can add a small drizzle of melted chocolate after dusting with sugar.
