Description

Make delicious and healthy kid-friendly oven-baked apple chips with this simple recipe. Perfect for picky eaters and busy parents.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples (any variety works, but firm apples like Fuji, Honeycrisp, or Gala are best)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 225°F (105°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Wash and dry the apples. Using a mandoline slicer (carefully!) or a sharp knife, slice the apples as thinly as possible (about 1/16 to 1/8 inch thick). Remove any seeds.
  3. Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets. Try not to overlap them.
  4. If using, sprinkle the cinnamon and nutmeg evenly over the apple slices.
  5. Bake for 1 hour, then flip each apple slice. Continue baking for another 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the chips are dry and crisp. Baking time varies based on apple thickness and oven.
  6. Turn off the oven and leave the apple chips inside for another 30 minutes to an hour as the oven cools. This helps them crisp up even more.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool completely on the baking sheets. They will become even crispier as they cool.
  8. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can lightly sprinkle with a tiny bit of sugar or a dash of vanilla extract before baking.
  • If your apples are very thin, check them sooner to prevent burning.
  • These are a great way to use up apples that are starting to get soft.
