Description
Quick and easy whole wheat French toast sticks perfect for busy mornings and little hands. A kid-approved way to make breakfast fun and nutritious.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 slices whole wheat bread (day old is best)
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk (any kind you use)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- Butter or oil for cooking
- Maple syrup, fruit, or other desired toppings
Instructions
- Cut each slice of bread into 3 or 4 strips (sticks).
- In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon (if using) until well combined.
- Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat and add a little butter or oil.
- Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture, coating both sides. Let any excess drip off.
- Place the coated sticks onto the hot pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Repeat with the remaining bread sticks, adding more butter or oil to the pan as needed.
- Serve warm with your favorite toppings.
Notes
- Day-old bread works best as it absorbs the egg mixture without getting too soggy.
- You can make a larger batch and store leftovers in the refrigerator for a quick reheat later.
- These are great for dipping! Let your kids choose their favorite dipping sauces like yogurt, applesauce, or a drizzle of honey.
