Description

Chocolate-covered banana pops are a fun and healthy frozen treat for kids. They are easy to make and can be customized with different toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe bananas (but not overly soft)
  • 4 wooden popsicle sticks or skewers
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (milk, dark, or semi-sweet)
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional, for smoother chocolate)
  • Assorted toppings (e.g., sprinkles, chopped nuts, shredded coconut, mini chocolate chips)

Instructions

  1. Peel the bananas and cut each in half crosswise.
  2. Insert a popsicle stick into the cut end of each banana half, about halfway through.
  3. Place the banana halves on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes, or until firm.
  4. While the bananas are freezing, melt the chocolate chips. You can do this in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth, or using a double boiler. If using, stir in the coconut oil until combined.
  5. Once the bananas are firm, dip each frozen banana half into the melted chocolate, turning to coat completely. Let any excess chocolate drip off.
  6. Immediately sprinkle with your desired toppings before the chocolate sets.
  7. Place the decorated banana pops back on the parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for another 1-2 hours, or until the chocolate is fully set and the pops are firm.
  8. Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • For a thinner chocolate coating, add a little more coconut oil.
  • If you don’t have popsicle sticks, you can still freeze the banana pieces and dip them, then eat them with a fork.
  • Experiment with different chocolate types, like white chocolate or flavored chocolate.
  • These are a great way to use up bananas that are getting a little too ripe.
