Description

These amazing kid-friendly apple donut holes are a sweet success, ready in just 30 minutes. Perfect for busy parents, they are designed to be easy, appealing, and genuinely helpful for making mealtimes less stressful and more enjoyable for the whole family.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 small apple, peeled, cored, and finely diced
  • Oil for frying
  • For the coating: 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, milk, and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Gently fold in the finely diced apple.
  5. Heat about 2-3 inches of oil in a large pot or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Using a small cookie scoop or two spoons, carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot.
  7. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Remove the donut holes with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  9. In a shallow bowl, combine 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
  10. While the donut holes are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  11. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of nutmeg to the dry ingredients.
  • If you don’t have fresh apples, unsweetened applesauce can be used as a substitute, but the texture will be different.
  • These donut holes are best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • My son, Leo, loves helping me roll these in the cinnamon sugar, and my daughter, Mia, always asks for extra!
  • You can use an air fryer for a healthier option. Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown.
