Description
Make a refreshing, floral lemonade featuring the flavors of fresh blueberries and lavender.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons dried culinary lavender buds
- 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons)
- 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
- 4 cups cold water, divided
- Ice cubes
- Lemon slices and fresh lavender sprigs for garnish
Instructions
- Make the lavender simple syrup: Combine the sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the dried lavender buds. Let the mixture steep for 30 minutes.
- Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean container, pressing lightly on the lavender buds to extract liquid. Discard the buds. Let the syrup cool completely.
- Prepare the blueberry base: In a small saucepan, combine the blueberries with 1 cup of the cold water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for about 5 minutes, until the blueberries soften and release their color.
- Mash the blueberries lightly with a fork or potato masher. Strain the blueberry mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing on the solids to extract all the juice and color. Discard the solids. Let the blueberry juice cool.
- Combine the lemonade base: In a large pitcher, mix the fresh lemon juice, the cooled lavender simple syrup, and the cooled blueberry juice. Stir well.
- Dilute the mixture: Add the remaining 3 cups of cold water to the pitcher and stir to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness if needed by adding a little more water or lemon juice.
- Serve immediately over ice. Garnish each glass with lemon slices and a fresh lavender sprig.
Notes
- You can adjust the amount of lavender syrup based on how strong you want the floral flavor. Start with less and add more to taste.
- For a sparkling version, substitute 2 cups of the cold water in step 6 with club soda or sparkling water just before serving.
- If using frozen blueberries, you may need to simmer them slightly longer to break them down.
