Description
Transform your leftover sourdough starter into delicious, crispy crackers. These homemade crackers are perfect for snacking or serving with dips and cheese. They’re easy to make and a great way to reduce food waste.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup sourdough starter (fed and active)
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Optional: 1-2 tablespoons herbs (like rosemary, thyme, or chives) or seeds (like sesame, poppy, or flax)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, combine the sourdough starter, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
- If using, stir in your chosen herbs or seeds.
- Mix until well combined. The dough will be thick and sticky.
- Spread the dough thinly and evenly onto the prepared baking sheet. You can use a spatula or your hands. Aim for a thickness of about 1/16 to 1/8 inch.
- Score the dough into cracker shapes with a knife or pizza cutter. This will make them easier to break apart after baking.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the crackers are golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them as they can burn quickly.
- Let the crackers cool completely on the baking sheet before breaking them apart along the scored lines.
Notes
- Ensure your sourdough starter is active and bubbly for the best results.
- You can adjust the seasonings to your liking. Garlic powder, onion powder, or a pinch of red pepper flakes are also great additions.
- For extra crispiness, you can bake them for a few extra minutes at a lower temperature.
