Description
Make delicious homemade fruit leather roll-ups with strawberries and apples. This is a simple recipe your kids will love.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups chopped fresh strawberries
- 2 cups chopped peeled apples (like Gala or Fuji)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 175°F (80°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
- Combine strawberries, apples, and lemon juice in a large saucepan.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the fruit is very soft and has broken down, about 15-20 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Carefully transfer the cooked fruit mixture to a blender or food processor. Blend until completely smooth.
- Pour the fruit puree onto the prepared baking sheets. Spread it thinly and evenly, about 1/8 inch thick, using an offset spatula or the back of a spoon. Leave a small border around the edges.
- Bake for 4-6 hours, or until the fruit leather is no longer sticky but is pliable and can be peeled from the parchment paper. The time will vary depending on your oven and how thinly you spread the puree.
- Once baked, let the fruit leather cool completely on the baking sheets.
- Peel the fruit leather from the paper. Cut it into strips using kitchen shears or a pizza cutter.
- Roll up each strip tightly. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, or refrigerate for longer storage.
Notes
- Make sure to spread the puree thinly for even drying.
- If the fruit leather is still sticky after the recommended time, continue baking until it is pliable.
- You can use other fruit combinations, adjusting cooking time as needed.
