Description

Make crispy, juicy chicken nuggets at home using ground chicken. This baked recipe is healthier than frying and is approved by kids.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly spray with cooking spray.
  2. In a shallow dish, combine the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well.
  3. In a second shallow dish, place the beaten eggs.
  4. In a third shallow dish, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Take about 1 tablespoon of ground chicken and form it into a small nugget shape.
  6. Dredge each nugget first in the flour mixture, shaking off excess.
  7. Dip the floured nugget completely into the egg mixture.
  8. Finally, coat the nugget thoroughly in the panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently so the crumbs adhere.
  9. Place the coated nuggets on the prepared baking sheet. Spray the tops lightly with cooking spray for extra crispiness.
  10. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

Notes

  • For an air fryer version, cook at 375°F (190°C) for 10 to 12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
  • You can freeze uncooked, breaded nuggets on a tray. Once frozen solid, transfer them to a freezer bag. Bake from frozen, adding 5-7 minutes to the cooking time.
  • Use chicken breast meat instead of ground chicken if you prefer shaping whole pieces.
