Ingredients
Scale
- 4 slices of your favorite bread
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 4 ounces cheddar cheese, thinly sliced
- 4 ounces Gruyere cheese, thinly sliced
- 1 cup prepared tomato soup
Instructions
- Spread butter evenly on one side of each bread slice.
- Place two slices of bread, butter-side down, in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Layer the cheddar and Gruyere cheeses on top of the bread in the skillet.
- Top with the remaining two slices of bread, butter-side up.
- Grill for 3-4 minutes per side, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and gooey.
- While the sandwiches are grilling, warm the tomato soup in a small saucepan over low heat.
- Cut the grilled cheese sandwiches in half for easy dunking.
- Serve the grilled cheese halves immediately with the warm tomato soup for dipping.
Notes
- Feel free to experiment with different types of bread and cheese to find your favorite combination.
- For an extra layer of flavor, you can add a thin spread of mayonnaise to the outside of the bread before grilling.
- Ensure your skillet is not too hot to avoid burning the bread before the cheese melts.
