Description
Make a rich, savory grilled cheese sandwich by coating the outside of the bread with garlic butter before grilling for a crispy, flavorful crust.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 slices sturdy white or sourdough bread
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cloves garlic, minced very fine or pressed
- 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 4 slices mozzarella cheese
- 2 slices sharp cheddar cheese
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, and dried parsley until well combined. This is your garlic butter spread.
- Spread a thin, even layer of the garlic butter mixture on one side of each slice of bread. This will be the outside surface of your sandwich.
- Flip two slices of bread so the buttered side is down. Layer the cheese: one slice provolone, one slice mozzarella, and one slice cheddar on each. Top with the remaining two slices of bread, buttered side up.
- Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet.
- Grill for 4 to 6 minutes per side. Press down gently with a spatula occasionally to help the cheese melt and the bread brown evenly.
- Cook until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese is fully melted and gooey.
- Remove from the skillet, slice in half, and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use room temperature butter for easier spreading without tearing the bread.
- Keep the heat low to medium-low; this allows the cheese time to melt completely before the garlic butter burns.
- For extra flavor, use a mix of three or four different melting cheeses.
