Description

Make these Cheesy Sausage and Cream Cheese Pinwheels for an easy, crowd-pleasing appetizer. You use simple ingredients like flaky crescent roll dough, savory sausage, and creamy cheese for a quick snack perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage, cooked and drained
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 can (8 count) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the cooked, drained sausage and the softened cream cheese. Mix well until completely smooth and combined.
  3. Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean surface. Do not separate the triangles. Gently press the seams together to form one large rectangle.
  4. Spread the sausage and cream cheese mixture evenly over the entire surface of the dough rectangle.
  5. Starting from one of the long sides, tightly roll the dough into a log.
  6. Use a sharp knife to slice the log into 1/2-inch thick pinwheels.
  7. Place the pinwheels cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them.
  8. Brush the tops of the pinwheels lightly with the beaten egg wash.
  9. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and puffed up.
  10. Let the pinwheels cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving warm.

Notes

  • You can use puff pastry instead of crescent roll dough for a richer texture.
  • For extra flavor, mix in 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese with the sausage mixture.
  • Drain the cooked sausage very well to prevent the pinwheels from getting soggy.
  • These freeze well before baking; place them on a tray, freeze solid, then transfer to a freezer bag.
