Description
Enjoy these warm, comforting baked apples, perfectly spiced with cinnamon and brown sugar. This recipe brings a sense of cozy joy to your kitchen, transforming simple fruit into a delightful, soulful dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large baking apples (such as Honeycrisp or Gala)
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Prepare a small baking dish.
- Wash the apples. Use a melon baller or small spoon to carefully core the center of each apple, leaving about a half-inch base intact. Do not cut all the way through the bottom.
- In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg together. This is your stuffing.
- Place the cored apples in your prepared baking dish.
- Divide the sugar mixture evenly, spooning it into the hollow center of each apple.
- Top the stuffing in each apple with a few small pieces of butter.
- Pour the 1/4 cup of water into the bottom of the baking dish around the apples.
- Bake for 35 to 45 minutes. The apples are done when they are tender when pierced with a fork and the tops are bubbly.
- Serve warm.
Notes
- Use slightly firm apples so they hold their shape during baking.
- You can substitute oats with the flour for a slightly crispier texture inside the core.
- Liam suggests adding a splash of vanilla extract to the butter topping for extra depth.
- Sara recommends serving this with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the full experience.
