Description
Create tender, warm baked apples filled with a sweet and spicy brown sugar and cinnamon mixture. This recipe brings comforting fall flavors to your table easily.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium baking apples (like Honeycrisp or Fuji)
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- Wash the apples. Use a small knife or melon baller to core the center of each apple, leaving about a half-inch border at the bottom so the filling stays inside.
- In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg together.
- Stuff the cavity of each apple with the sugar and spice mixture. Place a small piece of butter on top of the filling in each apple.
- Place the prepared apples in a small baking dish. Pour the water into the bottom of the baking dish.
- Bake for 30 to 45 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
- Serve warm, spooning any remaining syrup from the dish over the top.
Notes
- Use firm apples that hold their shape well during baking.
- If your apples brown too quickly, you can loosely cover them with foil halfway through baking.
- For an extra rich sauce, use maple syrup instead of some of the brown sugar.
- You can add a handful of rolled oats to the filling for texture.
