Description

Make a delightful Apple Strudel using easy puff pastry. This recipe brings warmth and joy to your kitchen, perfect for sharing a cozy moment.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (14.1 ounces) frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 medium apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup raisins, soaked in warm water for 10 minutes and drained
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, gently toss the sliced apples with the granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Stir in the drained raisins and chopped nuts until the apples are evenly coated.
  4. Lightly flour your work surface. Unfold one sheet of the thawed puff pastry.
  5. Brush the pastry lightly with some of the melted butter.
  6. Arrange half of the apple mixture in a long, even layer over the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border on all sides.
  7. Fold the long sides of the pastry over the apple filling, then roll the pastry up tightly like a log, starting from one short end. Seal the edges by pressing gently.
  8. Carefully transfer the joined strudel seam-side down onto the prepared baking sheet. Repeat the process with the second sheet of pastry and remaining filling.
  9. Brush the tops of both strudels generously with the beaten egg wash.
  10. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  11. Let the Apple Strudel cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool further.
  12. Dust generously with powdered sugar before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to the apple filling.
  • If you prefer a crispier crust, you can brush the pastry with melted butter before applying the egg wash.
  • Taste your apples first; if they are very sweet, reduce the added sugar slightly.
