Description

Create a quick, family-friendly Honey Garlic Chicken with a thick, sticky glaze. This recipe delivers bold, sweet, and savory flavors in just 30 minutes, perfect for a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water (slurry)
  • Optional garnish: Sesame seeds and chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken pieces dry thoroughly. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic and ginger. Cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic burn.
  4. Pour in the honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. Stir well to combine. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.
  5. Whisk the cornstarch slurry one more time and pour it slowly into the simmering sauce, stirring constantly. The sauce will thicken quickly.
  6. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet. Toss immediately to coat every piece evenly with the thick, sticky glaze.
  7. Cook for 1 more minute until the sauce clings perfectly to the chicken.
  8. Remove from heat. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving hot over rice or noodles.

Notes

  • For extra crispy chicken, you can lightly dust the raw chicken pieces in cornstarch before searing in Step 2.
  • If you prefer using chicken thighs, you may need an extra minute or two of cooking time.
  • Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes based on your preference for spice.
  • This glaze is easy to adjust; add a splash more vinegar if you want it tangier.
