- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
- 1 (10 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup milk
- 1 (10 ounce) bag Nacho Cheese flavored Doritos, lightly crushed
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
- 1 cup salsa
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Cook the ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium heat until the beef is browned. Drain off any excess grease.
- In the same skillet, stir in the cream of chicken soup, cream of mushroom soup, and milk. Heat the mixture until it is warm and well combined.
- Remove the skillet from the heat. Gently fold in half of the crushed Doritos and half of the shredded cheddar cheese into the beef mixture.
- Spread half of the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Top this layer with half of the salsa.
- Spread the remaining beef mixture over the salsa layer. Top with the remaining salsa.
- Sprinkle the remaining crushed Doritos and the remaining shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top layer.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are lightly browned.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, substitute the cream of chicken soup with cream of cheddar soup.
- You can use any flavor of Doritos you prefer, but Nacho Cheese is the classic choice for this Tex Mex Casserole.
- If you want a spicier kick, add a can of diced green chilies to the beef mixture.
- This recipe freezes well; assemble it completely, cover tightly, and freeze before baking. Thaw overnight and add 10-15 minutes to the baking time.
