- 2 lbs sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes (steak bites)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Place the cubed steak into your slow cooker.
- Sprinkle the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder evenly over the steak pieces. Toss gently to coat everything.
- Pour the beef broth over the seasoned steak.
- Place the pieces of butter evenly over the top of the steak. Do not stir.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 3 to 4 hours, or on HIGH for 2 to 2.5 hours, until the steak is fork-tender. Avoid overcooking to keep the steak juicy.
- About 15 minutes before serving, stir in the minced garlic. Let it cook uncovered briefly to allow the liquid to reduce slightly, if desired.
- Taste the sauce and add more salt or pepper if needed.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving over mashed potatoes or rice.
Notes
- For the best results and guaranteed tenderness, use sirloin or chuck steak cut into uniform 1-inch pieces.
- If you prefer a thicker sauce, remove the steak halfway through cooking and mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water, then stir this slurry into the liquid in the slow cooker before returning the steak.
- This recipe works well for a complete meal if you add 1 pound of small red potatoes and 1 cup of sliced carrots during the first hour of cooking.
