Description

These Cranberry Pecan Stuffing Squares are a delightful twist on a holiday classic, baked into easy-to-serve squares for your next gathering. They’re bursting with the festive flavors of tart cranberries and crunchy pecans, making them a crowd-pleasing side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 cups bread cubes (stale sourdough or French bread work well)
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 3/4 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and celery and cook until softened, about 8-10 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  4. Pour the cooked onion and celery mixture over the bread cubes.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken broth, dried cranberries, chopped pecans, and eggs.
  6. Pour the wet ingredients over the bread mixture and toss gently to combine, ensuring all the bread cubes are moistened.
  7. Transfer the stuffing mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the stuffing is heated through.
  9. Let it cool slightly before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can toast your bread cubes beforehand.
  • Feel free to add other nuts like walnuts or toasted almonds.
  • If you prefer a moister stuffing, add a little more broth.
  • This recipe can be made ahead and reheated.
