Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 8 cups bread cubes (stale sourdough or French bread work well)
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 3/4 cup dried cranberries
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and celery and cook until softened, about 8-10 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Pour the cooked onion and celery mixture over the bread cubes.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken broth, dried cranberries, chopped pecans, and eggs.
- Pour the wet ingredients over the bread mixture and toss gently to combine, ensuring all the bread cubes are moistened.
- Transfer the stuffing mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the stuffing is heated through.
- Let it cool slightly before cutting into squares and serving.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, you can toast your bread cubes beforehand.
- Feel free to add other nuts like walnuts or toasted almonds.
- If you prefer a moister stuffing, add a little more broth.
- This recipe can be made ahead and reheated.
