Description
Make this easy, make-ahead red wine sangria featuring festive cranberry, orange, and warm cinnamon spice for your holiday gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (750 ml) bottle dry red wine (like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon)
- 1/2 cup brandy
- 1/4 cup orange liqueur (like Cointreau or Triple Sec)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 whole cloves
- 1 star anise
- 1 orange, thinly sliced
- 1 Granny Smith apple, cored and chopped
- 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
- 1 cup sparkling water or club soda, chilled (for serving)
- Ice cubes
Instructions
- In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, brandy, orange liqueur, sugar, cinnamon stick, cloves, and star anise. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Add the sliced orange, chopped apple, and cranberries to the pitcher. Stir gently to combine the fruit with the wine mixture.
- Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to infuse.
- When ready to serve, remove the cinnamon stick, cloves, and star anise if you prefer a less intense spice flavor.
- Fill glasses with ice. Pour the sangria mixture into the glasses, making sure each glass gets some fruit.
- Top each serving with a splash of chilled sparkling water or club soda for effervescence.
Notes
- You can substitute the brandy with dark rum for a slightly different flavor profile.
- For a sweeter drink, increase the sugar to 1/3 cup, adjusting to your taste.
- Prepare the sangria base up to 24 hours in advance; add the sparkling water just before serving.
