Description
Create festive and fresh Candy Cane Caprese Salad Skewers for a light holiday appetizer. These skewers bring a playful, colorful twist to the classic Caprese, perfect for your next gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pint Cherry or Grape Tomatoes
- 8 ounces Small Fresh Mozzarella Balls (Bocconcini or Ciliegine), drained
- 1 bunch Fresh Basil Leaves
- 1 tablespoon Balsamic Glaze
- 1 teaspoon Olive Oil
- Pinch of Salt
- Pinch of Black Pepper
- Small Candy Canes (optional, for garnish/presentation)
Instructions
- Wash and thoroughly dry the tomatoes and basil leaves.
- If using large mozzarella balls, cut them into bite-sized pieces.
- Thread the ingredients onto small skewers in this repeating pattern: tomato, basil leaf (folded if large), mozzarella ball. Aim for a candy cane-like alternating color effect if possible.
- Arrange the assembled skewers on a serving platter.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, balsamic glaze, salt, and pepper to create a light dressing.
- Drizzle the balsamic mixture lightly over the skewers just before serving.
- For a playful presentation, you can nestle the base of the skewers near small, unwrapped candy canes on the platter.
Notes
- You can substitute fresh basil with baby spinach for a different green.
- Make sure the mozzarella is completely dry to prevent the skewers from becoming watery.
- Prepare the skewers ahead of time, but only drizzle the dressing right before guests arrive.
- If you skip the candy canes, these skewers remain a beautiful red and white appetizer.
