Description

Make tender asparagus with a crispy Parmesan coating using your air fryer. This recipe delivers a flavorful, fry-like vegetable side dish quickly.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh asparagus, tough ends trimmed
  • 1 large egg white, lightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the asparagus by trimming the woody ends. Pat the spears completely dry with paper towels; this is key for crispiness.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk the egg white until slightly frothy. Add the olive oil and mix briefly.
  3. In a separate small bowl, combine the grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Dip each asparagus spear into the egg white mixture, letting excess drip off.
  5. Roll the damp asparagus in the Parmesan mixture, pressing gently so the cheese adheres well to all sides.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to 380 degrees Fahrenheit (195 degrees Celsius) for 3 minutes.
  7. Arrange the coated asparagus in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket; work in batches if necessary.
  8. Air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time, until the Parmesan is golden brown and the asparagus is tender-crisp.
  9. Remove immediately and serve hot.

Notes

  • Drying the asparagus thoroughly before coating prevents a soggy result.
  • For extra crispiness, you can lightly spray the coated spears with cooking spray before the first 5 minutes of cooking.
  • If your asparagus spears are very thick, you may need to add 1 to 2 minutes to the total cook time.
