Description

Achieve the perfect air fryer baked potato with a wonderfully crispy skin and a light, fluffy interior. This method is fast and simple, turning a humble potato into a satisfying meal or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 Medium Russet Potatoes
  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 1 Teaspoon Coarse Salt (like Kosher or Sea Salt)
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper (Optional)
  • Pinch of Garlic Powder (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the potatoes well under running water. Scrub the skin thoroughly to remove any dirt.
  2. Dry the potatoes completely using a paper towel. Moisture prevents crisping.
  3. Pierce each potato 5 to 6 times deeply all over with a fork or sharp knife. This allows steam to escape.
  4. In a bowl, toss the potatoes with olive oil until lightly coated.
  5. Sprinkle the coarse salt, pepper, and garlic powder (if using) evenly over the skins. Rub the seasoning in gently.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius).
  7. Place the seasoned potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the basket. Work in batches if necessary.
  8. Air fry for 35 to 45 minutes. The time depends on the size of your potatoes.
  9. Check for doneness by piercing the center with a knife; it should slide in with no resistance.
  10. Carefully remove the potatoes from the air fryer. Slice open, fluff the inside with a fork, and add your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For extra crispy skin, lightly rub the potatoes with a thin layer of butter or extra oil halfway through the cooking time.
  • If your potatoes are very large, you may need to add 5 to 10 extra minutes to the cook time.
  • Serving suggestions include shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, chopped chives, crumbled bacon, or chili.
  • Keep the potatoes in a single layer for even cooking and maximum crispness.
